Tacit adjective
– understood or implied without being stated

It’s just cables. No really, I promise! I know it looks like there is some sort of fancy magic going on there, but it really is just cables. Once you’ve knit a few rounds, you’ll see exactly how it comes together, and you’ll be hooked.

But I do feel like I should warn you. From what I’ve seen so far, there’s every chance one pair won’t be enough. These seem to be the sort of project that get requested by friends and family who see you knitting them (and I’ve even heard tell of a pair or two getting cough borrowed cough as soon as they were off the needles). So you may want to plan on making a few pairs.

Luckily, they are written in three sizes (a 44, 48, & 52-stitch cast on), so there’s an option to fit most anyone. And of course you should feel free to adjust your gauge a bit to fine tune the fit of the mitt. Just be sure that you’re working at a gauge that gives you a fabric you like with your chosen yarn. I recommend working at something around 6, 6.5, or 7 stitches per inch, and I’ve included a table to help you figure out what gauge you’ll want to use for the size you need. I figured we needed lots of options, because I have a suspicion these will find their way into a lot of gift boxes come this holiday season!

These are perfect for you if:

  • You simply must know how that zig zag happens
  • You know in your heart of hearts that mitts should be mirrored

They’re not for you if:

  • You don’t like charts
  • You really hate cables
