Every summer, with luck, we get at least one perfect storm: a long, steady, gentle rain that soaks through the ground and nourishes the roots of all the plants. The sound and scent of gentle rain nourishes the soul, too.
Colorado is an arid place, and the rare perfect storms make all the difference. Most summer storms are full of sound and fury, passing quickly. But I love the gentle rains. Lately I long for anything that instills a sense of comfort and safety. To remind myself of the gentle ways in which we are nourished, I designed the Summer Rain Shawl. This lightweight, airy shawl is worked from the center top-down in a classic crescent shape. Twisted rib stitch gives way to an original cable and lace pattern inspired by the fall and splash of raindrops.
