Meandering is a curvy rectangular stole or scarf and may even be joined together as a cowl. Meandering can be knitted in any weight yarn from lace to worsted. This is not a conventional pattern for it only provides you with some guidelines to create and it is up to you to determine your final project. It can be knitted as long or short, as wide or narrow as you choose – with the edge pattern or without. Peruse all the projects shown and choose the one that interests you!
Meandering may be knitted with or without beads. Three bead placement options are provided, but feel free to experiment.
Meandering is based on the stitch pattern, Japanese Feather, with its gentle curves. It is especially dear to my heart for Lost Without Her (Thus Meandering) was knitted at the hospice facility with my mother and completed the day after she passed.

Yarns
Lace, heavy lace, fingering, sport, DK, and worsted weight yarns are all suitable, depending on the desired result. Lace weight, especially on larger-size needles, will yield a soft, gossamer-like stole while medium weight will give a structured fabric with clean stitch definition. Heavy weight will result in a warm and cozy project.
Gauge
Gauge isn’t important but will determine the feel and final size of the object. Photographed fingering sample using Size US5 / 3.75mm needles is approximately 26 stitches and 28 rows to 4” / 10.0cm square, slightly stretched out.
Tools
Needles in size US5 / 3.75mm for light weight yarn (adjust for other weight), stitch markers, blunt tapestry needle, crochet hook or other tool if you are adding beads, T-pins, and blocking wire(s) and mat.
Beads
Size 8 rounds for lace weight, size 6 rounds for heavy lace weight (500-600m/100g), size 6 rounds or size 5 triangles for fingering weight (400m/100g). Amount is based on the number of times you knit the repeat box both width and length wise and if you bead every repeat. Example – knitting the repeat box 8 times in width and at 13 times in length will require 624 beads for option 1 , 1,456 beads for option 2, and 2,080 beads for option 3.
