This shawl is my homage to the beautiful Emperor Gum Moth. Emerging from a background of stocking stitch, this unusual moth is accompanied by a little scarab beetle with outstretched wings – two unlikely insects with their own distinctive beauty. This shawl uses right and left twists to enhance wing shapes and antennae, and merge like tendrils into a lace border finished with optional picot points.

If you wish to substitute yarn, select a heavy lace weight (or even a 3 ply) with a good twist in order to enhance the textured nature of the lace stitches. The shawl illustrated used just over 3 balls of Zealana Kiwi in the colour-way: Majesty.
