Mosaic stitch patterning on the fronts gives this V-neck jacket a retro flair, underlined by the restrained texture on the back. If you can’t resist the look of little boys in grandpa cardigans, this one’s for you.
Using one multi-coloured yarn for the colourwork will give the patterning extra energy, but for the true vintage vibe, be sure to keep the garter-stitch hem, cuffs and neckband solid.
This V-neck cardigan is worked bottom up, in pieces and seamed. It has modified set-in sleeves with a short sleeve cap. The shoulders are joined using a three-needle bind off. The fronts are worked in a simple slip stitch colourwork pattern where only one colour per row is worked. The back has a textured stitch pattern with twisted stitches that may be worked with or without a cable needle. Stitches are picked up along the front edges and neckline to create a Garter Stitch button band with the choice to place the buttons on the right or left side.
