This shawl was designed for the 2019/2020 YarnOver Truck’s Yarn Club. This year the name was the Happiness Gradient Club. Each shipment was about your happy place and my inspiration was Sunsets at the Ocean! The yarn I received was absolutely beautiful and all on its own it sings of sunset, but I wanted my design to evoke the ocean and the beach in several different ways.
I developed a completely new shawl shape with shaping that creates a triangle on one side (my beach) and pi shawl shaping to mimic the crashing waves building to a crescent on the other. In the generous yardage of lace weight yarn the result is a large shawl that wears light as the foam on the sea. The triangle has an easy texture and the lace motif was chosen because it looks like waves rippling up onto the beach.
With so much fabric there are a myriad of ways to style the shawl, so you should play with it and find what you like best. Both the straight and the curved edge can be worn as the neckline and you will still have a beautiful cascade of lace flowing down your back.
