Calliope inspired the Ilead and Odyssey. The muse of epic poetry and eloquence, she is always portrayed with a writing tablet, and sometimes carrying a roll of paper and wearing a golden crown. She was the eldest of the muses, and the most involved with the Gods, by some accounts having been appointed by Zeus as a judge in the dispute between Persephone and Aphrodite over Adonis.
