Hilary Smith Callis

Knitter, designer, mama, farmer’s wife, and recent re-resident of my home town in California’s agricultural Central Valley. I grew up in a family that has been farming melons (and such) for about a century in the area, but left for the big city (LA) when it was time for college. After getting degrees in Greek & Latin and Art History, I somehow ended up landing a job at NASA, met my husband there, and we made our home in California’s other big city, San Francisco, for 10 years. In 2011, our little boy was born. But life in the city proved difficult with a young one, so we all packed up and moved back to my home town, and in October ‘14 added a new baby girl to the mix. So now we spend our time taking part in our small-town community, playing outside, and adjusting to life with two littles. 🙂

You can find my work in such publications as Knitty, Twist Collective, Knitscene Magazine, and “Brave New Knits: 26 Projects and Personalities from the Knitting Blogosphere.” I enjoy designing feminine, wearable pieces and love bright colors and neutrals alike. You can read more about my design process in an interview I did with Robin Hunter, here.

And please come hang out in The Yarniad’s Symposium, my Ravelry group, where we share photos and discuss any pattern difficulties. We’d love to have you!
