G. Ledyard Stebbins was a botanist and geneticist, and participated in the development of our modern understanding of evolutionary theory. He also happens to have taught at my alma mater at the end of his career and there’s a nearby nature reserve named after him. When this LOVELY yarn first arrived, I had something very different in mind for it, but the sheen was too lovely, the hand too nice for what I had originally thought. It needed something lacy, and the “organic” movement of this pattern reminded me of plants – hence the name.
