I wanted to design a shawl that incorporated traditional lace patterns, reminiscent of peacock feathers, into a simple rectangular shawl. This is a good first lace piece for a confident knitter, but still has enough going on to maintain your interest if you’ve more experience.

The shawl is very easy to resize; since all the repeats across the different stitch patterns are the same width, simply work more (or fewer) panels. Of course length is also easily changed by working more or fewer repeats of each stitch pattern.
