The Adamson House has two iconic pieces of tilework. The first is the peacock fountain; the second is the tiled fringed Persian rug.
This ‘rug’ is reason alone to visit the Adamson House. It dominates the hallway in which it was installed. It’s a triumph of trompe l’oeil – the detail is amazing, including the fringe which waves and overlaps like real fringe.
I love the fringe, which is why it’s what I wanted to reinterpret in a knitted piece. My intent was to evoke the edge of a Persian carpet including the fringe.
