Decorum noun propriety and good taste in conduct or appearance
Ok, I’ll just say it right at the beginning, the wee pointy bits at the top are optional. You absolutely can wear them, sticking up, being all adorable, as you go about your day.
This is, in fact, how I will most likely be wearing mine.
But, if you’re not quite sure that your day calls for that level of exuberance, you can also tuck them in to make a delightfully sculptural (if slightly more subdued) top.
And you don’t have to pick one or the other and stick with it. You can switch between them with about ten seconds of effort as you like. Because sometimes you just need options.
And as for the knitting, it’s an awful lot of fun. Start with a quick ribbed brim (just enough to look good, not so much that you want to stab yourself with a knitting needle to make it stop). Then transition into two lovely cabled panels (just enough to show off and keep you focused) flanked by stockinette (to keep things mellow and give your yarn room to shine). Then a quick bit of magic at the top to shape things up (I promise it’s not hard, and you will feel remarkably clever when you’re done).
It’s basically exactly what I want in a hat. Fun, easy, just enough going on to hold my attention, not so much that it feels hard. And awfully darn cute when you’re done!
