New Horizons was designed to be knit using any fingering weight yarn (original worked using Lichtfaden Rei) in two or more colours with the colours being semi solid/speckles and each incorporating elements of the others. However, there is no reason why your colours could not be boldly contrasting, tonal or the same colour but different textures; what about using one solid and a gradient, two fingerings with a kidsilk held with one of them, a fingering and a Silk Halo/Fuzzy Mohair (fingering/sport weight) … the world is your oyster? Make your New Horizon your own and embrace the change.
New Horizons is a top down, crescent shaped shawl that is easy to knit and easy to wear. A striped, stocking-stitch, body leads to a simple lace design that is surrounded by broken garter ridges which leads to a garter stitch edge that flares into the pointed edge though these points could quite easily be blocked into a gentler scalloped edge. Easy to enlarge or reduce with the ability to introduce additional colours, repeat the body chart, repeat the lace chart and to end with either a picot bind-off or a simple stretchy bind off – again, make it your own! This is the perfect project for travelling, tv knitting or a social gathering – especially knit-night!
