Size and Yarn: As written 78” (198cm) wide, 20.5” (52cm) deep after blocking. Measurements taken using one skein of DyeforYarn Tussah Silk Lace (695m/100g) and will differ depending on yarn, tension, blocking etc and are therefore given as a guide only.
Circular Needles: 3.5mm (US4), 3.75mm (US5) and 4mm (US 6) about 1m in length or needles to create a pleasing fabric – your fabric should not be too dense and should have good drape.
Beads: There are two types of beads used for this shawl:- Just under 600 Miyuki (or Toho) Size 6 Seed Beads for Bead A and 450 Miyuki Size 5 Triangles for Bead B.
You will also need: 1mm Cro-tat hook/needle or hook for applying beads, stitch markers, needle (for weaving in ends), blocking pins and mats.
Gauge: Gauge is not overly important as this is a shawl. It is better to knit a swatch to ensure that you are happy with your tension and the drape of your fabric remembering that a looser gauge will result in additional yardage requirements. However, the gauge achieved was 18 sts to 4” after blocking – measurement taken over pattern in Chart 2 using 3.75mm (US 5) needles.
